Culture of Caring
Pennybyrn at Maryfield has a rich history
of providing exemplary resident care. For six decades, we have been
known as the premier provider of excellent short-term and long-term
care in the Triad.
Pennybyrn at Maryfield is comprised of three
distinct neighborhoods – the Independent Living Neighborhood,
the Assisted Living Neighborhood and The Maryfield Health Care Households
Neighborhood.
Today, the Maryfield Health Care Households have embraced a revolutionary
way of providing care. We call it a Culture of Caring. Within this
culture, we now have households in which residents receive the level
of service most appropriate for their care needs.
Households consists of a group of resident rooms which center around
a warm, homey kitchen, pantry, parlor, living room, dining room,
sunroom, laundry room and even a porch and beautiful courtyard. Like any home, our households
are designed to be the focal point of residents’ lives and
encourage physical, social and mental activities that are appropriate for each resident.
The Maryfield Health Care Households, in turn, radiate from a centralized
Town Square that includes a beauty parlor, therapy services, coffee shop, gift shop, clinic and
an exercise facility.
This common-sense approach to living and caring for residents at
the Maryfield Health Care Households creates a long-term care community
where residents are empowered to make choices about how they live
their lives, where they are:
- Respected.
- Have opportunities to learn and grow.
- In control of their pursuit of happiness.
- Able to achieve goals, pleasures and satisfaction
in daily life.
- Genuinely involved and able to contribute.
We have a warm, friendly community where days
are meaningful and filled with life. Each day is informal like a
day in our own homes. The result? A truly rewarding and satisfying
daily life.

The
Maryfield Health Care Households
Our skilled nursing services have been transformed into six cozy
households where residents, staff, families and volunteers share
attitudes, values, goals and practices. These households where residents
receive 24-hour nursing care, are staffed by familiar caregivers
who are there to help residents as they live lives of meaning, worth
and happiness.
The Maryfield Health Care Households provide the best personal,
health and medical services any resident will need; services such
as personal care, wound care, intravenous medications, health care
education, special dietary preparations and short- and long-term
rehabilitation for conditions such as fractures and strokes, as well.
Each of the six Health Care Households is independent of the
others; where staff and residents live together and carry out daily
activities together.

Memory
Support
In Memory Support, residents enjoy the same home environment, while
their specialized needs are met. Working hand-in-hand with industry specialists, we have designed
the Memory Support Households with secure, yet spacious courtyards
that feature elements which invoke the calming, nurturing environments
of each resident’s past.
The Memory Support Households also pay special attention to the
specific needs of memory support residents: familiar daily routines,
secure areas for recreation and enhanced life-skill activities that
replicate each resident’s personal interests.

Caring
Care Givers
Being part of the team of care givers at the Maryfield Health Care
Households means that staff members are a vital, active part of
this nurturing community. Residents, care givers and volunteers
work together in small groups to plan daily life, genuinely engaging
everyone so as to weave together a fulfilled community. Everything
we do is defined by what is best for the residents.
Responsibilities of staff are blended so that creative roles emerge.
Dedicated and empowered care givers have both specialized training
and broad-range training that allow them to best meet the many needs
of our Household residents through all of a day’s activities.
It’s a common sense approach that enhances life for everyone
involved and it’s unlike anything you have seen in traditional
health care.
When we welcome residents “home” to the Maryfield Health
Care Households, we really mean it.
